Garage, mechanic and car valeting logo design
A garage's logo sits on a fascia beside the MOT sign, on overalls covered in oil and on the job card in a customer's glovebox. It has to look dependable in all three.
Logos from
£199
→The short answer
A good garage or mechanic logo looks dependable on a fascia sign, survives oil-stained overalls and works small on job cards and key tags. Valeting and detailing firms need a sharper, more premium look. Ours start at £199, and you see the logo on your sign, workwear and paperwork before you pay anything.

Garage, mechanic and car valeting logo ideas

Concept Ironbridge MotorsIndependent garage
A spanner in a shield: an old-fashioned badge of a garage you can trust, simple enough for a fascia and a key tag.

Concept Northfield AutosMOT and servicing
A square monogram in navy and amber that sits calmly beside the blue MOT sign without competing with it.

Concept Torque Mobile MechanicMobile mechanic
A van beside the name, because for a mobile mechanic the van is the workshop and the advert.

Concept Gleam ValetingCar valeting
A car in a bright disc, for a valeter whose customers book from a phone and judge the logo by how shiny it looks.

Concept Mirrorfinish DetailingPaint correction and detailing
One long word in tall capitals, black and gold, for a detailer charging premium prices for perfect paint.

Concept Station Road GarageFamily garage
A round badge in the style of an old enamel garage sign, with the street name a regular will recognise.

Concept Tread & BrakeTyres and brakes
A wheel over the name: what the business does, in one shape, on a tyre bay door and a receipt.

Concept PanelcraftBody repairs and paintwork
A spark beside a single word, for a bodyshop whose craft is welding, filling and paint.
(02)Where it lives
Where a garage logo has to work
| Where | The limit | What the logo needs |
|---|---|---|
| The fascia sign | Read from the road, next to the MOT sign | A short name in bold letters, and colours that don't clash with the sign beside it |
| Overalls and workwear | Embroidered, then covered in oil and grime | A simple version in one colour that survives the wash |
| Job cards, invoices and key tags | Small, printed in black, often handwritten on | A compact one-colour version |
| Paper floor mats and air fresheners | Printed cheaply in one colour | A bold mark with no fine detail |
| The valeting van or trailer | Seen parked on customers' drives | The logo, one number and a line on what you do |
| Before-and-after videos | A small mark in the corner of a phone video | A symbol or monogram that reads at a tiny size |
(03)MOT stations
Your logo shares the frontage with a sign that has rules.
The MOT sign and your trading name
An MOT test station must display the official three-triangles sign in a prominent position, no higher than 4.5 metres from the ground and no more than one on each road frontage. Its business trading name must be displayed clearly too1.
So when we lay out a garage's fascia, the MOT sign gets its own space and your logo takes the rest. We never echo the triangles or the sign's blue in your logo: customers should be able to tell the official sign from your brand at a glance, and the rules for the sign are set by the agency, not by you.
(04)Car makers' badges
How far a specialist can go.
Saying you specialise, without borrowing the badge
Plenty of independent garages specialise in one make, and saying so is fine. Using the car maker's logo in a way that suggests you're connected to it is not. In 2017 the Court of Appeal found that an independent BMW specialist in London had infringed BMW's trade marks through the way it used them in its name and advertising; BMW had not objected to the plain description "the BMW specialists"2. Car makers do take action: one independent dealer agreed to stop using a manufacturer's logo and pay its legal costs3.
What we do instead
- Your own logo, with no car maker's badge, emblem or lettering style built into it.
- A line in plain words beside it, such as "Independent BMW and Mini specialists".
- Room on the sign and the website to say "not affiliated with" where it helps avoid confusion.

Questions
(07)Questions
Not as part of your own branding. Saying in plain words that you specialise in a make is generally fine; using the maker's badge in a way that suggests you're an official dealer can infringe its trade marks. If in doubt, ask a solicitor or the maker before you order the sign.
Usually. Valeting and detailing customers are buying a finish, so a sharper, more premium look suits them; garage customers want reassurance, so solid and dependable works better. If you do both, we design one logo that leans towards the work you want more of.
We design a simplified embroidery version in one colour, thick enough to stay sharp after a hundred washes, and show it to you on a dark overall before you approve.
