The short answer

Website maintenance services keep a site fast, secure and up to date: software updates, security checks, backups, fixing anything that breaks and making your changes. Managed hosting means someone else runs the server it lives on. Both are included in every Nod & Co plan from £99 a month.

(01)Every month

What we do without being asked.

What website maintenance covers each month

Updates

Everything the site runs on kept current, tested after each change so an update never quietly breaks a form.

Security

The padlock certificate renewed automatically, and the site checked for anything that shouldn't be there.

Backups

Copies of your site taken regularly and kept somewhere separate, so it can be put back if anything goes wrong.

Uptime and speed

The site watched so we know if it goes down, and kept quick on phones as you add pages and photos.

Forms that work

Contact and quote forms tested, so enquiries reach you. A broken form is the most expensive fault a small business site can have, because nobody tells you.

Your changes

New prices, photos, opening hours and text, sent to us by email or WhatsApp and made for you.

Google Search Console

Errors Google reports about your site checked and fixed, so pages keep getting indexed.

(02)Hosting, explained

The words you'll hear, in plain English.

What hosting means for a small business

Domain

Your address on the web, like yourbusiness.co.uk. You rent it yearly, and it should be registered in your name.

Hosting

The computers that store your site and send it to visitors. Managed hosting means someone else looks after them for you.

Security certificate

What puts the padlock in the address bar and lets browsers trust your forms. It has to renew, and should do so automatically.

Email

Separate from hosting, even though both use your domain. Moving a website shouldn't touch your email.

Backups

Copies of the site from different days. Only useful if they're stored away from the site itself.

(03)Taking over a site

If you already have a website someone else built.

Moving an existing site to us

What we can keep

  • Your domain name, and every address on the site that Google already knows
  • All your words, photos and documents
  • Your email, untouched
  • Your Google Business Profile, Search Console and analytics history

What usually changes

  • The design and the platform: we rebuild the site on ours rather than looking after one built on a system we don't run
  • Plugins and paid add-ons from the old site, which are replaced with features built in
  • Logins to an old builder or host, which you can cancel once the new site is live

The move is done with every old address mapped and redirected, so you don't lose what's ranking. Website redesign explains how.

(04)What it costs

Published UK figures, with sources.

What hosting and maintenance cost elsewhere

Typical costs of running a small business website yourself
ItemTypical costSource
Hosting£5–£60 a month1
Domain renewal£3–£10 a year1
Plugins and apps (WordPress)£20–£300 or more a year1
Changes by a freelance designer£25–£50 an hour2

With us, hosting, updates, security, backups and your small changes are all in the monthly plan. The one cost you pay separately is your domain's yearly fee: we register, renew and look after the domain for you, in your name, and tell you the fee before you choose a plan.

Questions

(06)Questions

If the site takes enquiries, yes, or someone needs to do the same job. Software goes out of date, certificates expire and forms break, often without anyone noticing until customers stop getting in touch.
