Hotel and B&B logo design

A small hotel's logo has to look right in two very different places: on a sign by the road at forty miles an hour, and stitched on a towel in a quiet room.

The short answer

A good hotel logo reads on a roadside sign, looks at home embroidered on linen and printed on a key fob, and stays recognisable as a tiny square on booking sites. Ours start at £199, and you see the logo on your sign, your rooms and your booking listing before you pay anything.

Where a hotel logo has to work

The places a hotel or B&B logo appears, and what each demands
WhereThe limitWhat the logo needs
The roadside signRead from a moving car, often at duskA short name in large, plain letters with high contrast
Booking sites and mapsA small square beside your photos and reviewsA mark or monogram that reads at thumbnail size
Towels, robes and linenEmbroidered, often white on whiteA simple monogram or crest drawn for thread
Key fobs and cardsEngraved, embossed or printed smallA compact version, often the monogram alone
Breakfast menus and room guidesPrinted in-house, often in blackA one-colour version that still looks smart
Emails and confirmationsShown small at the top of an emailA wide version that loads fast and stays sharp

(03)Star ratings

Earned stars, shown honestly.

Star ratings, award badges and your logo

A star rating or award badge beside your logo can win bookings. Showing one you don't hold is a serious mistake. When a Cornish hotel put the AA logo and "AA 4*" on its website without evidence of the rating, the Advertising Standards Authority ruled the ad misleading under the advertising code's rule on trust marks and endorsements, and told it not to claim the endorsement again1.

How we handle ratings and awards

  • We never build stars, rosettes or award shapes into your own logo.
  • Rating badges go beside the logo, using the awarding body's own artwork, only while the rating is current.
  • Review scores from booking sites are shown as the site allows, with the date, not redrawn in your colours.
  • If a rating lapses, the layouts we supply make it easy to remove without redesigning anything.

(04)The linen test

A logo you can stitch

The most luxurious place a hotel's logo goes is also the hardest: a towel, a robe or a pillowcase. Embroidery turns thin lines into blobs and small type into a smudge, and white thread on white cotton only shows up as texture.

So every hotel identity we design has a stitch-ready version: usually a monogram or a simple crest, with lines thick enough for thread, that looks deliberate even when it's tone on tone. Get it right and it says more about the stay than any sign.

Questions

(07)Questions

Only if it suits the building and the guests you want. A crest feels right for a country house or a historic inn and wrong for a city aparthotel. Many small hotels do best with a strong wordmark plus a monogram for linen and key fobs.
